Athletics provide many opportunities for participants and spectators alike to socialize with their neighbours and meet other members of the community at local sporting venues. Through its recognition of local sports talent and their associated acclaim, the Whitby Sports Hall of Fame instills a lasting sense of pride in the community. This fosters the creation of positive role models, lead active and healthy lifestyles, who in turn will encourage and empower youth to get involved in sports, and strive for excellence as well. Sports also provides individuals with outlets to learn and develop skills, achieve recognition on a regional, in many cases, raise their self-esteem and, express themselves, provincial and/or national level. The accomplishments of local athletes, witnessed, leaving an indelible mark on all who have supported, and international attention to our Town, national, and builders/contributors bring regional, coaches, teams, or interacted with our inductees.
